Leaders of the Cua Lo Ward People's Committee in Nghe An province have announced that local authorities have successfully addressed the issue of unregulated jet ski operations that were compromising the safety of tourists at the popular beach destination.

Designated pick-up and drop-off areas for jet ski services have now been separated from swimming areas, with prices clearly listed.

For some time, residents and visitors had expressed frustration over jet skis frequently speeding and approaching close to designated swimming areas to solicit customers, posing a significant risk of accidents for swimmers.

"I was swimming with my young child when a jet ski suddenly sped past just a few meters away", shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a tourist from Hanoi. "It felt very dangerous; a slight turn of the handlebars could have caused an accident".

Responding to these concerns, leaders of the Cua Lo Ward People's Committee directed a series of measures to rectify tourism business activities during their first meeting of 2025, with a primary focus on decisively handling the unsafe, unregulated jet ski operations.

The ward organized a working session with functional forces and jet ski business owners. At the meeting, local authorities pointed out several violations, including vehicles encroaching on swimming areas, a lack of life vests and rescue equipment, the absence of safety warning signs, and causing public disorder that concerned tourists.

The business owners have since committed to immediately rectifying these violations and strictly adhering to regulations. The Ward People's Committee has mandated that jet skis are not permitted to operate within swimming zones. They must also be fully equipped with rescue gear, publicly and transparently list their service prices, and operate only within the licensed hours and designated areas. Furthermore, the ward's police have been assigned to coordinate with relevant forces to increase patrols and strictly handle any cases of intentional violation.

Speaking to our reporter, Mr. Cao Minh Tu, Chairman of the Cua Lo Ward People's Committee, stated that following these decisive measures, all jet ski operations in the area are now largely in compliance with regulations and have been required to operate from proper docks. Restoring order to these activities is essential to ensure the safety of our tourists and for the sustainable development of Cua Lo's tourism.

For many years, Cua Lo ward has continuously strived to build an image as a civilized, friendly, and safe destination to meet the long-term development requirements of the local tourism industry.
